Not only is Mark an expert paddler and tour guide, he's quite the chef too. All veggies from his personal garden, hot coffee and tea and all organic!...
We had a great time, enjoyed great food, paddled and sailed in the open ocean and had several great laughs together. Mark is a great host, very knowledgeable kayak guide and a lot of fun. Clearly the best option for kayaking this leg of the Te Araroa trail.
"Your experience and seamanship gave us the confidence to venture out into that 1.5-2m ocean swell
which we would never have considered doing on our own.
Thanks for an exhilarating experience Mark. Oh and we still don't
know how you organised the performance by the dolphins on the last day... they really were the icing on the cake!"

"Good safety gear supplied - we felt like we were in safe hands because of of your experience!"
"You had local knowledge to suggest various alternatives when the weather was mucking us about."
"Thanks for taking us fishing."
"Happy with the performance of the Kayaks we used."
"We appreciated the instructions and tips along the way."
I thoroughly enjoyed learning something of the history of the island from Mark and Sharon, wandering amongst the ruins...
while getting a feel for what a hardlife it must have been for the quarry workers way back then. Those who have known me for a long time
were amazed that i had got into a kayak at all, let alone onto the sea - but in my retirement I'm up for trying new things! Would love to do it
again. And do I recommend it to other 'oldies' - you betcha!

We have hired kayaks from Mark at Pacific Coast Kayaks 4 times now. Each time has been a long weekend trip-to a
different destination on each occasion, and we have always done freedom rentals only. Mark's advice and suggestions
to us have been fantastic-where we can camp, where there is fresh water, where we may have a difficulty getting to
shore, where the fishing should be good, etc. He's always watched the weather developing a few days before we have
hired the kayaks so has been able to give his opinion on whether our planned route is sensible considering the
weather forecast. Mark's attention to our safety has been excellent-checking up each day that we are safe and
giving us the latest weather update. We have had one private kayak skills session with Mark, learning how to
manage a capsize situation and certainly plan on having another when we are next up in the Whangarei region.
This was really practical and useful."
The kayaks and all the rental gear is in good condition, and you know Mark has gone through his
own checklist to make sure you head out with the appropriate gear.
